Description
In the second webinar of the Building Care Solutions "Medically Complex Care" series, Dr. Judith Hibbard, Professor of Health Policy at the University of Oregon, will review the evidence linking patient activation with behaviors, clinical outcomes, and health care costs. She will also describe the interventions that increase patient activation. Finally, she will discuss how health care delivery systems are using the measurement, and linked interventions, in population health management to improve care and outcomes.
Dr. Judith Hibbard, PhD, MPH, is the lead author of the Patient Activation Measure (PAM). Currently used by researchers and practitioners internationally, the PAM measures an individual’s knowledge and skill for self-management. Over the last 28 years, Dr. Hibbard has focused her research on consumer choices and behavior in health care. She has a particular interest in testing approaches that give consumers and patients more knowledge and control over their health and health care. Her research is supported by The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, The Agency for Health Care Research and Quality, The Health Care Industry Forum, and the AARP Public Policy Institute. Dr. Hibbard holds a masters degree in Public Health from UCLA and her doctoral degree is from the School of Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley.
