Event description

Description

Hi CS Teachers,

We are excited to bring you a fantastic professional development opportunity this summer. Bootstrap is the original research-based, computational modeling curriculum in Algebra for grades 6-12. Bootstrap:Algebra applies mathematical concepts and rigorous programming principles to guide students in creating a simple video game, and is aligned to National and State Standards for Mathematics. Students create a simple, 3-character game involving a player, a target and a danger. They design what each character looks like, and use algebraic concepts to detect collisions, handle keystrokes, and determine how they move and interact.

In a Bootstrap Workshop, you will...

  • See the curriculum in action
  • Explore the research
  • Investigate the cognitive challenges for students struggling with Algebra
  • Be a student for a day, and see the lessons taught by a master teacher

You'll work with your peers to discuss content, pedagogy, and spend the day in your students' shoes. You'll have a chance to try activities from every single Bootstrap class. You'll be able to debrief with other teachers, talk pedagogy with the trainers, and try out the materials and software firsthand. And finally, you'll go home with a videogame that you created.

We look forward to you joining us!!

Best,
