DIRECTIONS: This location does not have an address yet. Plase take hwy 101 south to Bailey Avenue in Morgan Hill. Turn left (east) and at the stop sign go straight. Follow the road as it bends to the left and just around the bend you will see us on the right hand side. We have a green gate and a big grey porta potty (our beacon of hope in the wilderness). If you get to the county parks shooting range you went too far. We are at the bottom of the hill, just around the corner from the freeway.
This 6.5 mile round trip hike will gain 900 feet in elevation to the top of the ridge for amazing views and tons of wildflowers specific to these hills. You will have chances to see endangered butterflies, possibly burrowing owls, and all kinds of endangered and threatened plants.
For this experience we will ask you to bring at least one hiking pole, plenty of water, snacks, a hat that ties down and sturdy, good hiking shoes that will support your ankles. The hike includes a steady 2 mile hill climb that promises spectacular sites once completed. Also, due to the steep incline, we do not allow babies, toddlers, or children under 12 unless they are used to hiking 5+ miles at a time. The hike begins at 9 am to allow time to reach the top and to come back down. It will be offered Friday through Sunday.
Caution: The entrance to Coyote Ridge is down the street from the County Park’s shooting range. While there is no danger, we respect that the sound may be upsetting. Once you get around the corner to head up hill or to enjoy the lower section of this trail, the sounds are blocked. However, while we are in the parking area, there may be a few gunshot sounds. If you prefer to move away from the area before the rest of the group, please let us know and we can make arrangements for you to do so and the rest of the group will catch up.
