Cowtown to Boomtown

How Midwest Cities Can Reinvent Themselves in the 21st Century

Session 1: Lessons from Omaha

Once a sleepy cowtown, Omaha was recently named the Fastest Recovering City in America (Forbes) and the #2 Up-and-Coming Startup City in the World (just ahead of Shanghai). It's a city in the midst of an urban and economic renaissance that is transforming the former meatpacking center into a key innovation, technology and entrepreneurial hub for the 21st century.

Tom Chapman, the director of entrepreneurship and innovation at the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce, will be in Iowa City/Cedar Rapids Tuesday & Wednesday, July 12-13, 2011 to share insights and behind-the-scenes stories that have helped Omaha grow, attract jobs, companies and talent, and in the process, transform the region from a cowtown to one of the leading economic boomtowns of the Midwest.

Tom’s people-centric approach to building an entrepreneurial ecosystem is focused on understanding the ecosystem’s strengths, taking policy action to support its health, building better startup teams and connecting players appropriately.
Read and discuss his approach here.

Cowtown to Boomtown events are intended for entrepreneurs and area business leaders to share new strategies, best practices and lessons learned to help our region grow new business, create jobs, attract talent, and keep our region vibrant and globally competitive.
