Re-imagine and re-envision how the Ismaili Centre, Burnaby’s courtyard has inspired art and culture. What happens when a group of innovative artists are brought into an inspirational space – molded through the combination of organic nature and man made architecture? The evening of September 29 will provide a one of a kind stimulating sensory journey animated by interactive music and movement – all under the canopy of art, culture and nature itself.

Artist Biographies:

Nancy Lee
Nancy Lee is a curator of interactions. Her crafted spaces stimulate behavioral dynamics, inviting their release into a broth of intangibles. An avid filmmaker, Nancy has worked as a documentarian and advocacy journalist with different global health initiatives as well as with Vancouver’s Chinese-Canadian community, among others. Her work stimulates and enlivens space, making a provocative statement about how inescapably interconnected we are with our surroundings.

Laine Butler
Laine Butler is a Vancouver based Sound Designer, Graphic Designer, and Visual Artist. He combines Technology with Art to create interesting spaces sonically, visually and virtually.
Laine’s passion for the creation of soundscapes for any application are rooted in his admiration and knowledge of sound synthesis and audio recording. His creation of 3D spaces results in a visually reactive work of art.

Kiran Bhumber
Kiran Bhumber is a media artist, composer, musician and educator based in Vancouver, Canada. She constructs interactive installations and performance systems to allow performers and audiences to engage with themes relating to cultural memory, embodiment and nostalgia. She is currently completing an MA in Media Arts as a Graduate Student Research Assistant at the University of Michigan. Kiran is continuing her research on the creation of new instruments/interfaces in addition to interactive performance systems and electroacoustic composition. Kiran holds a Bachelor of Music degree (2014) from the University of British Columbia.

Ralph Escamillan
Ralph started his training at age 14 at Harbour Dance Centre in Vancouver, BC. His arsenal of performance skills includes a verity of street dance styles, ballroom, circus, drag and was a graduated of Contemporary Training Program Modus Operandi (2015). In his earlier years of dancing he danced with Vancouver crews such as Kill The Lights, House Of Ladouche, Freshgroove Productions, SickStyles and 247company. He is currently working/touring with Co- Erasga Dance, Company 605, Wen Wei Dance and as an emerging choreographer explores the complexities of identity and culture through his work.
