This opportunity is exclusively for 2017 and 2018 State Teachers of the Year and Finalists from each state.

Reunited and it feels so good! Join your colleagues in NNSTOY’s most popular leadership course, offered only for 2017 and 2018 State Teachers of the Year and Finalists as part of our onboarding to your new professional home! We have an all-star lineup of 11 state teachers of the year ready to lead your learning this January.

Learn Course I: Adult Learning and Leadership, created by teacher leaders, for teacher leaders based on the Teacher Leader Model Standards.


The cost of this course equates to $10/hour for exceptional leadership development for you, with activities and tools you can bring back to your colleagues.


Goals

Facilitated by State Teachers of the Year and Finalists, this course will enhance your ability to:

  • Understand what it means to be a teacher leader;
  • Apply adult learning theory in your leadership context;
  • Facilitate effective teacher teams;
  • Learn principles for designing and implementing change;
  • Implement tools back in your school that can help develop other teachers, creating a more effective system for supporting student learning.

You will receive:

  • The latest adult learning theories to help you lead your colleagues;
  • Innovative tools to inspire and guide your teacher leadership (and share with your school). These include 1) handouts and an activity to explore the shift from working with students to working with adults, 2) a graphic organizer to analyze highly effective teams, 3) a self-reflection tool for facilitating adult learning, 4) a continuum of practice exploring the development of expertise, and 5) a change process protocol to promote change in your school;
  • New strategies to facilitate teacher teams effectively;
  • A digital badge to add to Linkedin and your email signature;
  • An action plan to promote change in your school/district;
  • A virtual follow-up session to support your work on your plan;
  • One course credit through Southern Utah University;
  • A certificate of participation for 20 hours;
  • An amazing time with like-minded colleagues.

March 14: Ways of Knowing (Drago-Severson) and Transformative Learning (Mezirow) with Heidi Crumrine (NH 2018) and Jessica Solano (FL 2017)

March 21: Andragogy (Knowles): Adult Learning Theory and Development of Expertise with Megan Olivia Hall and Katie Biggs (DoDEA 2014)

April 4: X-teams/types of teams, Tuckman's stages of team development Daniele Massey (DoDEA 2013)

April 11: High functioning team case study, evidence of highly effective teams with Daniele Massey

April 18: Facilitation self-assessment and goal-setting with Chris Holmes

April 25: Facilitation case study with Jane McMahon (WI 2014)

May 2: Change process protocol with Megan Allen (FL 2010)

May 9: Reverse selling with Daniele Massey

May 16: Setting goals for next steps with Daniele Massey


Important note on attendance: We feel your crazy schedule! We understand that you are working to juggle family, personal life, your teaching life, and your new(ish) life as a recognized teacher who is working a busy travel and speaking schedule. We have built this course for you! We are recording each course session so you can watch it after the fact. Don't stress if you are going to be traveling or working—we will work to accommodate you and your schedule (and do so without any extra guilt...just support and understanding!).

  • Ask your administrator if there are TItle 1 funds that could be used.
  • Highlight all the benefits, activities, and tools you will be able to share with your school, district, or state.
  • Connect with your PTA/PTO or local education foundation.
  • Check in with your teacher of the year coordinator or your state chapter. It doesn't hurt to ask!
