Event description

Description

Implicit biases, also known as unconscious biases, often guide our thinking about social categories (such as race, gender, class, etc.) and can result in behaviors that perpetuate disparate outcomes for those who are marginalized. These biases are born through direct experiences as well as through stories passed on by family, media, and culture. Only when we bring these biases to our conscious awareness can we shift them. Join us for this interactive workshop that is centered around three activities that prompt us to look at our own biases in a group setting. This workshop is open to those …

  • who have already participated in the program Historical Policy Foundations for Socioeconomic Disparities” held by Courageous Conversations on March 24, or on other occasions with the Georgetown Health Foundation or the Southeast Georgetown Community Council;

  • or, who are open to exploring their own biases while witnessing and supporting others to do the same.

Presenter: Lorna Hermosura, Georgetown Health Foundation Program Officer and PhD candidate at University of Texas at Austin
