Brief introduction to place-based public health and overview of the Point of Sale Toolkit (POST): Accessing your account, collecting data, mapping data, and telling your stories. 

Learning objectives:

  • Understand what "place-based public health" means and why the retail environment matters for health
  • Review how to conduct store assessments for tobacco and alcohol in Vermont stores
  • Learn why and how to use the Point-of-Sale Toolkit (POST) to collect and manage data from the micro and macro retail environment




  Mollie Mayfield, MPH

Mollie serves as a Project Director for Counter Tools, working with       partners in South Dakota, South Carolina, Vermont, and Florida. She also serves as the Managing Editor for, which she has managed content and social media for since 2014. She received her MPH in Health Behavior from the UNC Chapel Hill Gillings School of Global Public Health in 2016. Prior to her graduate studies, Mollie worked in communications and marketing for an innovative food bank. She loves working at Counter Tools because it aligns with her interests in fostering healthy lifestyles through health-supportive communities and environments, health equity, health communication, and making change through policy. She received her BA in Psychology with a concentration in Community and Global Health from Macalester College. In her spare time, Mollie enjoys read


  Charla J. Hodges, MPH
Project Director, Counter Tools

 As a Project Director at Counter Tools, Charla works with partners in the  states of North Carolina, Alabama, Minnesota, Indiana and the City of  Philadelphia. She has made her home in Chapel Hill, with her partner, José,  and a host of wonderful friends and family. Charla completed a dual master  degree program at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the Department of City and Regional Planning (Economic Development) and in the Gillings School of Public Health (Health Behavior). She was a Lucy Morgan Fellow in the Department of Health Behavior as well as a Co-Chair for the 35th Annual Minority Health Conference during her time at UNC-CH. Charla also holds a B.S in Community Health Education and a minor in Ethnic Studies from East Carolina University and has worked at several non- profit organizations, including The Food Trust in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She currently serves the Town of Chapel Hill as a Community Advisory Board member. In her spare time, Charla enjoys reading, traveling, and doing anything that focuses on creative arts.



 Who should attend?

These trainings are designed for the Vermont Department of Health Regional Prevention Partnerships (RPP) Grantees, Tobacco Grantees, VDH Staff,  RPP sub-recipients and Partners Assisting with Counter Tools

Required for Southern Grantees

This training is offered at no charge and is paid for through a grant   from the Vermont Department of Health, Alcohol and Drug Abuse   Programs (ADAP).

Breakfast and registration begins at 8:00 am
Lunch will be provided
