Session II: The Effect of Financial Aid Changes on The Role of High School Counselors
By Noé Ortiz, Partners for Educational Engagement of High School Counselors.
Recent financial aid changes have altered the financial aid landscape. These changes go beyond the FAFSA, propelling high school counselors into the technical aspects of financial aid. This session will equip counselors with the basics and resources for their new role as advocates and brokers of information for students and parents.
Session III: Cultural Competency: Supporting Our Students through Validation and Advocacy

How do we engage and support our first generation students and their families through the college and financial aid processes? How do we build relationships with them as their advocates and validating agents? This session will present Validation Theory and Cultural Wealth Model as strategies to help counselors serve their students and families.
