Description

Counseling Grief Clients: Practical Interventions from New Theoretical Insights

Friday, Decemeber 14, 2018 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

This workshop will provide a history overview and explore new grief research, including current information about appropriate diagnosis of grief clients in DSM-5, ideas for how to assess grief severity and related constructs, and clarification about what is meant by "complicated grief." Participants will leave with interventions to more confidently assist clients navigating the adaptive, confusing, and difficult grief process.

Objectives:

  • Present and discuss older models for conceptualizing the grief experience
  • Address predictors and mediators of mourning
  • Apply a basic, adaptable approach to grief counseling
  • Present and discuss intervention ideas
  • Learn DSM-5 updates on diagnosis of grief-related symptoms
  • Review the importance of self-care for grief counselors
