About this Event

‘When dealing with adults, children are often invisible, when they should be the priority’ (Barnardo’s young carer practitioner)

Edinburgh Young Carers is one of the most well established and largest organisations in Scotland dedicated to working with and supporting young carers. We are committed to improving the lives of young carers throughout Edinburgh.

We work with young people aged 5 to 25 years old who care for or are affected by someone else at home - usually a parent or sibling. Every young carer is an individual and we support those with a wide variety of experiences and difficulties. Young carers can care for a family member, sibling, partner or family friend who suffers from a disability, long-term health condition, mental health difficulties or those with a dependency on drugs/ alcohol. Young carers are often forgotten by so many professionals and services: 'Around 40% of carers have high levels of anxiety or depression, with young carers known to have a higher than average prevalence of self-harm' BJGP 2017
