Welcome to Cortical Connections 2021
Welcome to the first edition of the Cortical Connections 2021 in Latin America. Our goal is to get together international leaders in the field of normal and abnormal wiring of the cerebral cortex, fostering new and fruitful collaborations among participants.
About the Conference
The Cortical Connections is a scientific meeting about developmental anomalies of cortical connectivity (specifically the corpus callosum). Conference speakers include scientists and clinicians from around the world; leading experts from the fields of developmental neuroscience, laboratory genetics, clinical genetics, pediatric neurology, neuroimaging and neuropsychology.
In 2021, the program includes a workshop for clinicians, a family meeting and a research conference that is open to the public.
Scientific Program
Clinical Workshop - Neuropsychological and Clinical Evaluation (presented in Portuguese)
Date: June 18th, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm
Location: Centro de Estudos do Hospital Copa Star (Rua Figueiredo de Magalhães, 598 - sala 133 - Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro)
This practical workshop will provide specialized training for professionals who diagnose and assess children with developmental brain malformations. It is open to psychologists, pediatricians, neurologists, radiologists, speech pathologists, educators, and therapeutic professionals (OT, PT, SLP), and students in these fields.

Family Meeting (presented in Portuguese.)
Date: June 18th, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm
Location: Instituto D'Or Pesquisa e Ensino (Rua Diniz Cordeiro, 30, Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro)
The Family Meeting has been developed to promote the interaction between scientists and the families of patients with brain malformations. This meeting will consist of a series of lectures and roundtables about different aspects of the pathology.

Research Conference (presented in English)
Date: June 19th and 20th
Location: Colegio Brasileiro de Cirurgioes (Rua Visconde de Silva, 52, Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro)
A scientific meeting about developmental anomalies of cortical connectivity (specifically the corpus callosum). Conference speakers include scientists and clinicians from around the world; leading experts from the fields of developmental neuroscience, laboratory genetics, clinical genetics, pediatric neurology, neuroimaging and neuropsychology. The program consists of a series of brief presentations arranged in general progression from cellular & molecular studies, to neural diagnostics in humans, and finally to higher-level cognitive and behavioral issues related to anomalies of cortical connectivity.

Abstract Submission
You can submit your abstract to the poster session in the areas of Brain Morphology, Neuroimaging, Neuropsychology, Fetal Development, Genetics or Experimental models.
General Information
Submitted abstracts will be evaluated in terms of novelty, quality of writing and potential impact. All the submissions must be written in English. Participants with accepted abstracts will have a 50% discount in the registration fee.
Poster presentations will be organized in a 2-h session.

Oral presentations and travel grant
If you want your abstract to be considered for oral presentation, please indicate in the submission form. Oral presentations will be held during the one of the six sessions.
The Cortical Connections Conference has a limited number of travel grants to support participants with accepted abstracts. See below the three grant categories:
1- - Overseas participants (if you are coming from outside Brazil): partial travel reimbursement including two nights in a double-room hotel and registration free
2- - Participants outside Rio de Janeiro: two nights in a double-room hotel and registration free
3- - Locals (participants from Rio de Janeiro): registration free
Important dates
Abstracts must be submitted until March 1st 2021.
Results will be sent by e-mail until March 30th 2021.
Venue
The 2020 edition of the Cortical Connections will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, at the D'Or Institute for Research and Education (IDOR) and Colégio Brasileiro de Cirurgiões (CBC), both located in the heart of the city.

Access to Rio de Janeiro
For international flights, Rio de Janeiro has the main airport that can be used to access the city: Galeão – Antônio Carlos Jobim International Airport (GIG). Participants can also fly from different Brazilian cities and take a connecting flight to Santos Dumont Airport (SDU). The best way to come and go from the airport is by using urban transportation apps, such as Uber, 99taxis, and Cabify (around US$ 15 per ride).
Visa
Brazil exempts tourist visas for citizens of several countries, including the US, Australia, and EU. Please check here whether or not you need a visa.
