Event description
An evening of improvisation with Chris Corsano, Sarah Hennies, Annie Lewandowski, Willie B. in this one-time quartet performance.

About this Event

Chris Corsano (b. 1975, USA) is an upstate NY-based drummer who has been active at the intersections of collective improvisation, free jazz, avant-rock, and noise music since the late 1990's. He began a long-standing, high-energy musical partnership with saxophonist Paul Flaherty in 1998. Their style, which they occasionally refer to with (semi-)tongue-in-cheek humor as "The Hated Music", combines modern free-jazz's ecstatic collectivist spirit and the urgency and intensity of hardcore punk.

Sarah Hennies (b. 1979, Louisville, KY) is a composer based in Ithaca, NY whose work is concerned with a variety of musical, sociopolitical, and psychological issues including queer & trans identity, love, intimacy, psychoacoustics, and percussion. She is primarily a composer of solo and chamber works, but is also active in improvisation, film, performance art, and dance. She presents her work internationally as both a composer and percussionist with notable performances at Le Guess Who (Utrecht), Festival Cable (Nantes), send + receive (Winnipeg), O’ Art Space (Milan), The OBEY Convention (Halifax), Cafe Oto (London), ALICE (Copenhagen), and the Edition Festival (Stockholm). As a composer, she has received commissions across a wide array of performers and ensembles including Bearthoven (NYC), Bent Duo (NYC), Cristian Alvear (Santiago), Claire Chase (NYC), R. Andrew Lee (Denver), LIMINAR (Mexico City), The Living Earth Show (San Francisco), The Thin Edge New Music Collective (Toronto), Two-Way Street (Knoxville), and Yarn/Wire (NYC).

Annie Lewandowski is a composer/performer who works in song and improvisation, interested in exploring how they can intersect. As an improviser on piano, accordion, and electronics, she has performed/recorded with musicians including Fred Frith, the London Improvisers Orchestra, Caroline Kraabel, Theresa Wong, Tim Feeney, CAGE, Sarah Hennies, Spinneret.s, and Doublends Vert. As a singer, guitarist, and keyboardist, she has recorded with bands and ensembles including Emma Zunz, Xiu Xiu, The Curtains, Former Ghosts, and Yarn/Wire. Her band Powerdove has released nine recordings, most recently "War Shapes" (Murailles Music, 2017), and "Bitter Banquet" (fo'c'sle records, 2018). She premiered her Euripidean multimedia song cycle "Bitter Banquet" with baroque Keyboardist David Yearsley at the Sustaining the Antique Festival of Classics at Cornell University in October 2016.

Willie B (a.k.a. Brian Wilson) was born on February 13, 1975, and grew up on the outskirts of Boston. He has performed and recorded with many great artists such as Jamie Lidell, Johnny Dowd, Neko Case, BRIAN! Eszter Balint, TZAR, Sally Timms (The Mekons), Anna Coogan, The Mofos, and punk legend Jayne County . He is best known for incorporating Moog bass pedals into his setup, allowing him to play bass and drums simultaneously. In 2008 Willie took this concept on the road with Jamie Lidell on a world tour in support of his album JIM (Warp Records), which included a month as opening act for Elton John in Europe. Willie has also held down the drum chair for Jamie Lidell’s 2010/2011 Compass World Tour, which includes the US, Europe, Asia, and Australia. He also joined Lidell on his 2013 tour in support of his self titled release “Jamie Lidell”.
