Description

A discussion of the antagonists that has populated Coronation Street over the years. The event will look at how these villians have generated conflict and meaning from the earliest days of the programme to the current crop of villians who help make the programme so memorable and dramatic.

A bottle bar will be open from 6.30pm.


Colin Muir has MFAs in Theatre Directing from the University of Connecticut and Film Directng from Temple University in the Philadelphia. He was Programme Leader for the MA in Film Screenwriting at the University of Salford/TAMK 2007-14 and was Programme Leader for the MA in Television and Radio Scriptwriting at the University of Salford 1996-2017. He produced Joe Strick's Lysistrata, performed at the National Theatre in 2004. His most recent writing project, Underground, has active production partners with Iris Production UK and Umedia International.

Sarah Cassidy completed her MA in TV and Radio Scriptwriting at the University of Salford in 2014. During this time she got her first professional broadcasting credit on BBC Radio 4 Extra satirical show 'Newsjack'. Sarah co-created and co-wrote over 100 episodes for ALL FM 96.9 soap opera 'Station Road'. Her stageplay 'Bleeding for Mother' was part of the 2017 Greater Manchester Fringe Festival and was shortlisted for Best Drama, and received runner-up for Best New Writing. Sarah was part of London Screenwriters Festival Talent Campus writers scheme in 2015. Sarah is currently developing a radio play for BBC Radio 4 and is part of this years Liverpool Everyman Theatre Playwright Programme.

This event is suitable for aged 16+.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Limited pay and display parking is available outside the museum (coins only). An overflow car park is available at the University of Salford's Irwell Place car park, which is pay and display or pay by phone. Salford Crescent Train Station is a 2 minute walk from the museum and we are on a major bus route from the city centre. Please see our website for details.
