Join PANMA for the first event of the new season!
Coders, programmers, UX professionals, and design professionals in all media must address the issue of the limits of permissible “copying.” Depending on the nature, origin and quality of the “source” material, different and multiple dimensions of intellectual property protection may apply. In addition, apart from formal, statutory IP protection, contractual considerations may affect a designer’s leeway to “borrow” or “take inspiration” from others’ work. Frank Taney, PANMA board member and principal of Taney Legal LLC (www.taneylegal.com, @taneylegal and @scarylawyer), will discuss the practical and legal considerations of which designers and developers must be aware in performing their services, as well as some practical steps for avoiding or mitigating risks arising from these considerations.
Date: Thursday, September 25, 2014
Location: Univ. of PA Wharton School – Room is TBD.
Time: Doors open at 5:30. Program from 6pm – 7:30. Networking until 8pm.
