About this Event

Co-Hosts: Julia Gallogly, Ken Geiser, Rebekah Gewirtz, Danny Leblanc, Ed Marakovitz, Jim O’Brien, Rand Wilson

We warmly invite you to join us at a house party to learn more about the community organizing led by Massachusetts Communities Action Network (MCAN). As our communities continue to face increasing economic and racial inequality, MCAN has become a significant force fighting for economic and social justice throughout the state.

Currently, MCAN is focused on:

- Organizing for fair and adequate public education funding for all children in Massachusetts!

- Re-launching the Fair Share Amendment/ Millionaire's Tax with allies as we're moving a new strategy for a legal way to get this issue on the ballot in the next four years.

- Immigrant Rights organizing through monthly immigration interfaith prayer vigils to show support for those in detention at the Suffolk County Jail in South Bay; legislation for the Driver's License Bill; support for undocumented immigrants in sanctuary in congregations across MA; and provocative actions such as a Faith leaders 70 mile solidarity pilgrimage for immigrant justice from the JFK Federal Building to the Dover, NH ICE facility to draw attention to the moral crisis on the border.

- Organizing to get Partners HealthCare to hire people with CORIs (a criminal record)

- Youth-led organizing for criminal justice reform and youth jobs.

MCAN is building on a strong track record having played a major role in the wins for a $15 statewide minimum wage, paid family medical leave, and major criminal justice reform in 2018.

The activist communities in Somerville play a vital role in social justice efforts. We invite you to this house party to be a part of the critical campaigns mentioned above to win greater dignity and opportunity for all in Greater Boston and in Massachusetts as a whole. Come hear first hand about these campaigns and join us as we strategize together about how to move the work forward by investing our time and resources.

Please join us in supporting this important work for equality and justice! Together we can make a difference!
