Cancer Through The Continuum: Pediatric Cancer

This course is presented by Michigan Medicine Rehabilitation services in conjunction with Nationwide Children's Hospital and The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center -Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute.

This course is being evaluated for 6 CEU credits for MPT, OPTA, OOTA, and 6 contact hours for SLP

This conference is designed to provide participants with information and education regarding the detailed medical and rehabilitative management of individuals with pediatric cancer. Multi-disciplinary rehabilitation services are imperative in addressing the unique and complex functional limitations of this patient population throughout the continuum of care. We will be providing updated evidence-based information focused on patient care which will include, but not be limited to: pain control and management, management of peripheral neuropathy, neuropsychology, communication and swallowing, and multi-disciplinary collaboration within and across health systems. There will be breakout sessions led by content leaders from across the country. These sessions will cover: peripheral neuropathy assessment through the Pediatric Modified Total Neuropathy Scale, maximizing patient outcomes through prehabilitation, the transition of care from childhood to adulthood, communication and swallowing interventions, and effectively facilitating a return to everyday living. These topic areas will allow participants to apply evidenced-based assessments, interventions, and problem-solving strategies in pediatric oncology rehabilitation. This course will conclude with a question-answer or discussion panel comprised of rehabilitation therapist topic speakers and patient/family representation.
