About this event
Brooklyn Bridge Park provides flagship public waterfront access and experiences for millions of visitors a year, including passive and active recreation space built out on four piers along the East River. Maintaining the Park is challenging due to the dynamic marine environment and the need to minimize disruptions to ongoing operations.
There are commonly two approaches to waterfront facility maintenance: reactive (structural) and proactive (preventative). For the first ten years, the Park was limited to playing “catchup” with reactive structural repairs to emergency conditions. However, in 2018, with the majority of the Park buildout completed, the Park was presented the rare opportunity to shift to a preventative approach to maritime maintenance. In addition to significant cost savings, this shift in approach provides a more advantageous approach from a quality, durability, sustainability, and environmental point of view.
This presentation will cover the transformation of Brooklyn Bridge Park and the development and implementation of the Preventative Maintenance Program.
