The Copenhagen Bioscience Lectures are a series of open lectures for all researchers and other interested in and around the Copenhagen area. Every 4 weeks, on a Thursday evening, you are invited for lectures on themes with a general interest for the Novo Nordisk Foundation Research Centers and bioscience researchers in general. Often there will be a cross-disciplinary focus. The October lecture on 13 October 2016 invites the 2013 Interdisciplinary Synergy Programme grant holders Birthe Brandt Kragelund og Søren Kragh Moestrup.
15:45 Welcome and registration (coffee/tea/water available)
16:00 Birthe Brandt Kragelund, Professor,The Linderstrøm-Lang Centre for Protein Science, UCPH

16:45 Lecture by Søren Kragh Moestrup, Professor and Head of Inflammation Research, Institute of Molecular Medicine, University of Southern Denmark
"Treatment of experimental inflammation by drug-targeting of macrophages - in a translational perspective"
17:30 Networking with a drink and a bite
18:30 Thank you for a splendid end of day!
Registration is completely free of charge, but mandatory.
Søren Kragh Moestrup is professor and Head of Inflammation research at the Institute of Molecular Medicine, University of Southern Denmark (SDU). Furthermore, he is afiliated with Department of Biomedicine Aarhus University (AU) as professor.
Søren K. Moestrup has an MD and Dr Med Science degree from AU where he in 1999 became professor in medical biochemistry. Earlier, he also worked as visiting scientist (1994-95) at the Department of Biochemistry, Oxford University.
His major research field is the studying of cellular receptors for endocytosis. His lab over the years discovered several new receptors which have been charaterized in terms of structure, function and role in disease. This work uncovering important new insight into the metabolic pathways of vitamins, hemoglobin, enzyme and drugs has been truly translational in the sense that it covers research form basic molecular and structural biology to animal studies and clinical research. Moreover, the research has led to several patented discoveries including new biological drug candidates for treatment of inflammatory disease.
He has coauthored more than 200 publications that include highly cited work in many high impact journals including papers in Nature and Science. His scientific work and discoveries have been recognized by severals prizes and awards such as the Anders Medicial Prize for young scientist in 1999, ERC advanced grant in 2009, membership of the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters and the Novo Nordisk Prize in 2013.
Birthe Brandt Kragelund leads a research group which expertise is in protein interaction, structure and function relationships investigated by NMR spectroscopy and biophysics, and has made important contributions to the understanding of the impact of protein structural disorder on biology, propagating and pioneering the field of intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) with particular focus on membrane proteins.
I would like to know about upcoming Novo Nordisk Foundation Lectures - where can I find information?
You are very welcome to join the 'Novo Nordisk Foundation Research Centers' Linkedin group. There you will find information about upcoming lectures, and much more. Also, you may want to sign up for the weekly announcement with events and deadlines, sent out by the group manager.
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
You can park for free in front or at the side of Tuborg Havnevej 19. If that is full, there is 3 hours free parking in the parking to the Waterfront shopping mall at the end of the road.
Public transport by train to Hellerup station, and/or bus (1A, 21, 166), nearest by bus stop is Tuborg Boulevard.
Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?
Contact Sophie Labrosse at email@example.com
How do I cancel my participation?
Please help us respecting our speakers, as well keeping track of the numbers and optimize lecture and catering to the audience by cancelling as soon as you know that you exceptionally will not be able to make it. You can either cancel through Eventbrite or send an email to Sophie Labrosse (firstname.lastname@example.org).
