Event description

Description

This workshop will be held Saturday and Sunday, November 11-12, from 1:00-6:00 pm.

Have you ever wanted to do something ,to follow your heart's desire, but for some reason, you didn't? Have you ever wanted to stand up and take action against injustice, or to speak up against hate, but found yourself immobilized, for reasons you don't understand?

Join us for a two-day workshop exploring internalized oppression and how theatre can help neutralize and transform the innter obstacles that keep each of us from taking action and living our full, empowered lives.

Based on the social justice theatre work of Augusto Boal, this workshop will incorporate community-building theatre games with movement, sound, rhythm, and stories. We'll share experiences of moments where we have each felt stuck, paralyzed, or unable to take action, and then bring some of these stories to life through the theatre process.

The idea behind cop-in-the-head is that the inner obstacles that keep us from taking action are often linked to the systems, institutions, and oppressions that exist in our outer society. By exploring this connection more deeply, and taking creative action together, we strengthen our abilities to navigage, neutralize, confront, or transform these inner "cops" so we can move more freely towards a more just and hospitable world.

No theatre experience necessary! Shy people welcome.

We have added a sliding scale option, which begins at $85 for the weekend. We welcome donations for this fund, to ensure we can continue offering sliding scale options. For payment arrangements and other financial assistance, please email tamara@livingstages.org.
