UX Boot Camp
Advance your UX skills by applying them to a meaningful real-world design project.
Through Cooper's Advanced UX Boot Camp, participants will spend four intensive days working on a design project for a social good organization. For the GLIDE Boot Camp, participants will redesign the volunteer experience for the Daily Free Meals Program, which relies on 60 volunteers a day to serve 800,000 meals a year.
You'll walk away from this hands-on practicum knowing how to apply Cooper's Goal Directed-Design Method to on-boarding and deepening customer engagement. You'll also add an important service design project to your portfolio, and make a difference along the way!
Here's what you'll do in the 4-day workshop:
Conduct meaningful research with non-profit stakeholders and users
Translate your findings into insights that guide persona creation
Test and iterate on your ideas using scenarios
Pitch your design to a non-profit organization
For more than fifty years, GLIDE has worked to create a radically inclusive, just, and loving community mobilized to alleviate suffering and break the cycles of poverty and marginalization. Located in the culturally rich Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco, GLIDE serves a diverse cross-section of homeless, low-income and disenfranchised program participants, providing a comprehensive set of programs including: free meals; HIV/Hep C testing and counseling; housing assistance; domestic violence counseling and abatement; substance abuse recovery; licensed childcare; afterschool and summer programs for youth; a resource center for families; free legal services; and access to free primary and behavioral health care. GLIDE has founded and sustained visionary programming, and achieved tangible results for tens of thousands of individuals and families on the margins, all once thought to be beyond the possible. "Working directly with a real client and conducting research interviews with real people was unlike any of the other training experiences I've had over the years. Learning with written case studies is good, but there’s no substitute for the real deal. People are unpredictable. Cooper is giving students a chance to learn, fail fast, and not lose their job in the process.”
- Megan Ellinger, National Academy of Sciences
“The workshop training was grounded in delivering real value to stakeholders. The expectation of a concrete deliverable created a positive stress that motivated learning, engagement and team building amongst attendees.”
- Shawn Crowley, Atomic Object
"Most conferences are set up to give you a shotgun of bite-size information as you move from session to session. UX Boot Camp was critical to me in that it was comprehensive and consistent with its teaching. I got the whole picture of UX skills alongside some in-the-trench experience."
-Matthew Ensor, The Lampo Group
