Laurie graduated from the Culinary Institute of America and launched a career as a chef, food stylist, and food editor in New York for over 30 years. After relocating to Portland, Laurie jumped into the food scene, publishing multiple food guides for Portland and Seattle. In the last two years, Laurie has published several cannabis cookbooks including HERB, The Medical Marijuana Dispensary, Marijuana Edibles, and Cooking with Cannabis.
Laurie's entry into the marijuana industry came as a medical patient. Her doctor recommended the use of cannabis to help with a long-standing seizure disorder. Before marijuana, she was on several extremely unpleasant prescribed medications with horrible side effects and continued to have epileptic auras. Within three weeks of medicating with cannabis she was both aura- and seizure-free, which has been a huge improvement to her quality of life. This experience turned her into an advocate in the movement to destigmatize cannabis and raise the bar for marijuana edibles.
