We all know nobody cooks like Grandma -- her home cooking has heart, soul, and heritage. In our next edition of Fresh Bites: Cooking Live at Essex Street Market, we’re pairing up with Cooking with Granny to bring you a live cooking session with Granny Barbara and her Greek octopus stew! It's a homey, traditional Greek dish that you won’t find in NYC restaurants, but you will see it set out on family dinner tables all over Greece. And “yiayia’s” recipe has been in Granny Barbara’s family for generations.
As Granny Barbara cooks her octopus stew, we’ll hear tales of Greek immigration and community in old Astoria, Queens (the most diverse neighborhood in the nation!). We’ll also learn how she adapted her recipe for the States after a childhood of seeing fresh-caught octopus hanging out to dry. Plus: This cooking demo will be interactive -- indeed, you’ll get a chance to handle the octopus, too!
For a preview of what’s to come, check out this episode of Cooking with Granny. The show’s creator, Caroline Shin, will be co-hosting the session as Granny Barbara’s sous chef.
RSVP Now to Come and Cook with Grandma! Choose from an 11am seating or 1pm seating in your ticket selection (each demo lasts 1 hour).
