Event description

Description

Inspired by the Portland Stage production of Babette’s Feast, which tells the story of how a refugee transforms a community by sacrificing all she has to throw a lavish dinner party, Immigrant Kitchens is offering this cooking and dinner event. A group of up to 20 guests will cook the favorite meal of Iranian refugee, Parivash Rohani, and share dinner together. The meal (gluten-free) features pomegranate walnut sauce, saffron infused rice, crispy potatoes, and salad of tomato and cucumber with mint and sumac. Parivash Rohani is Iranian refugee, who has worked as a nurse in the U.S. for decades, raised a family, and been an activist supporting human rights.

Please bring whatever you would like to drink other than water, as well as a baseball cap to cover your hair (this is a professional kitchen with many food businesses working here - thank you). Please let me know of any food allergies or diet restrictions at least three days in advance of the class.

Please contact Immigrant Kitchens if the cost of the class is prohibitive. Partially sponsored tickets may be available.

This class is timed to follow the January 27th 4pm performance of Babette's Feast, allowing theater goers after the show to walk 5 blocks from the theater to Fork Food Labs for cooking and dinner. Theater tickets are sold separately by Portland Stage.
