Event description

Description

This autumn Making Lewes presents Collaborative Kaleidoscope, a series of events celebrating the richness and diversity of local, national and global makers. The season launches with Cooked, Baked and Fired Again – talks by celebrated ceramicists, with a delicious sit-down dinner and an exhibition of ceramics by invited East Sussex potters. All works will be for sale.

Doors open at 6.30pm. Talks begin at 7pm. Dinner will be served at 8pm.

The ticket price of £22.50 includes a glass of wine or soft drink on arrival, a generous plate of vegetarian mezze plus seasonal cake, prepared by established October Feast hosts, and the ceramicists’ talks. There will also be a paying bar.

This is a chance to see inside Fitzroy House, the Victorian library designed by George Gilbert Scott, newly acquired by Alison Grant. Her ambition is to turn this building into an arts space for Lewes. Built in 1862, this striking example of Victorian Neo-Gothic architecture became the town’s first library between 1897 and 1956. The highlight of the building is the glass roofed domed octagonal space where the dinner and talks will take place. Many of its original features were lovingly restored after the Franks family bought the building in the 1970’s.

Now as Lewes’s newest Arts Centre emerges and Fitzroy House opens its doors to the public, those sitting down to Making Lewes’s ceramics dinner will be among the first to enjoy and savor its unique atmospheres and hand made design.

Places are limited and only available by advance booking through Eventbrite.

Fitzroy House will also open its doors on Saturday, September 30th, from 11am to 4pm
for the general public to view and buy ceramics, and meet some of the ceramicists.

Make a note of the other talks in the Collaborative Kaleidoscope season. Time 20.00, at Fitzroy House unless otherwise indicated.
