Event Details

Richard Saul Wurman, Distinguished Professor of the Practice of Design in the College of Arts, Media and Design at Northeastern University, will stage a series of improvisational one-to-one conversations, held in front of a small audience at Northeastern. He describes the series of talks as "intellectual jazz". Hosted by the Center for the Arts and Art +Design.

Wurman created and chaired the TED conference from 1984 thru 2002 which celebrated his observation of the convergence of the technology business, the entertainment industry and designers. He also created and chaired the TEDMED conference from 1995 to 2010. 

Mr. Wurman has been awarded several honorary doctorates, Graham Fellowships, a Guggenheim and numerous grants from the National Endowment for the Arts. He is the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Smithsonian, Cooper-Hewitt National Design Awards. Wurman has also been awarded the Annual Gold Medal from Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland and a Gold Medal from AIGA. He is also a Fellow of the AIA and is a board member of The Wolfsonian.

Distinguished Guest - Northeastern President Joseph Aoun 

Joseph E. Aoun, an expert on higher education policy and a leading voice on the value of global and experiential education, is the seventh president of Northeastern University.

He came to Northeastern from the University of Southern California’s College of Letters, Arts & Sciences, where he held the Anna H. Bing Dean’s Chair. He received his PhD in linguistics and philosophy from MIT and advanced degrees from the University of Paris VIII and Saint Joseph University (Lebanon).

President Aoun has published eight books and written more than 40 journal articles. His academic honors include the Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Academiques from the French government, and the prestigious Robert A. Muh Award from MIT’s School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, chair of the American Council on Education in 2012-13, and serves on the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s academic advisory council.
