Event description

Description

BE AT THE TABLE:

For our Fall 2018 program, we will be hosting a three-part series taking a deeper look into the history and psychology of partisanship and political thought in America. We will be gathering researchers, activists and community members as we ask the less comfortable questions of ourselves : How exactly did we get here? How do we move forward?

Join us on the Nopalito patio for our final conversation of the series as we discuss political differences and power structures within the family (both of origin and broadly speaking.) We are enthused to intenionaly host this conversation smack in the middle of the holiday season as many of us process not only the normal family baggage and emotions that this time of year brings up, but likewise confront what can feel like even more intensley charged political conversations around the holiday table.

We are so enthused to bring leaders and researchers in this field to The Civic Table Project table for a night to dig into their findings, modes and strategies for succesful engagement. We will discuss why examining intergenerational and familial political differences might be the most illuminating pathway to discuss radical civility in the larger public sphere.

Your ticket will include margaritas, wine, and a seat at the table for conversation over a four-course, family style dinner.

100% of ticket sales will be donated to support The Center on Civility & Democratic Engagement.

"The Center on Civility & Democratic Engagement focuses on preparing current and future leaders to successfully engage people of diverse perspectives in finding solutions for pressing public policy issues.

Public dialogue often lacks civility and efforts toward policy consensus rarely enjoy broad democratic engagement. Today’s hardened lines of political division threaten to aggravate and perpetuate social problems. The need for more effective and successful democratic engagement is clearly seen in the paralysis and acrimony in our state and national governments and violence worldwide. "

Nopa and Nopalito restaurants, servers and chefs will be donating 100% of their food, beverage, time and service in order to support the conversation and the important work of The Center on Civility & Democratic Engagement.

Ticket prices have intentionally been set well below cost in order to ensure more needed and diverse voices can be at the table. If you are able, and so inclined, please consider making an additonal donation to sponsor a ticket and support The Center on Civility & Democratic Engagement.

Please Note - No one will be turned away from the conversation for lack of funds. Please contact caitlin@nopasf.com in advance for more information.
