Innovation in multimedia, digital art & live music visuals

13:00 - Doors Open


Throughout Convergence Sessions, Kachette's Arch 1 will be taken over by an immersive multi-sensory installation from Marshmallow Laser Feast as well as screenings of GIFs and moving image presented by onedotzero.

Marshmallow Laser Feast have finally put there marshmallow where their mouth is with their new sugar fuelled laser installation.  'Laser Face' tracks your facial expression as you chew whilst a contact mic listens to the marshmallow mastication. The tracked facial expressions are then combined with generative audio to create a reactive personalised laser show like no other.


onedotzero is a creative and cultural agency creating distinctive events and culturally significant experiences that merge arts, entertainment and technology to thrilling effect. onedotzero present screenings and a series of panel discussions on Day 2 of the Convergence Sessions.

13:15-13:50  #dotdotdot Screening Programme

onedotzero presents #dotdotdot; a screening programme curated as part of their new series of events for London’s creative and digital community. The collection of shorts and music videos feature cutting edge animation; from disco dancing robots to surreal monochromatic worlds and reflect a diverse range of styles and themes.

14:00-14:45  Marshmallow Laser Feast: 360º Storytelling 

A unique opportunity to hear from the creative studio behind some of the most intriguing immersive experiences of the recent past. Whether they're using robotics, virtual reality, or real time mapping, these artists and creative technologists create highly emotional and human-driven experiences. Marshmallow Laser Feast's Robin McNicholas and Barney Steel will take to the stage to present a behind-the-scenes look at previous projects, and to discuss 'Laser Face', their multi-sensory new installation which will debut at Convergence.

15:00-16:00 Making New Noise: Innovation in Sound and Technology

With the music world driving experimentation and innovation across instruments, platforms, production and dissemination, this panel will present and discuss some of these innovations in sound, technology and interaction. Featuring sound artist, designer and electronic musician Yuri Suzuki; Jean-Baptiste Thiebaut of ROLI, the music technology start-up behind the Seaboard GRAND; and Shelly Knotts, a composer, performer and improvisor of live electronic, live-coded and network music. The panel will be chaired by Andrew Dubber, director of Music Tech Fest, advisor to Bandcamp, Stromatolite and Sonaris, and founder of New Music Strategies, a pan-European digital music strategy think tank and consultancy group.

16:15-17:15 - New Screen to No Screen

From urban interventions and multi-platform entertainment, to live A/V music experiences - what are the creative possibilities and opportunities to display work and engage with music audiences? A panel discussion featuring celebrated artists Marshmallow Laser Feast, whose unforgettable hi-tech installations incorporate photo-real virtual reality, robotic performance and real time mapping; Stuart Warren Hill, founder of Hexstatic and creator of HOLOTRONICA, a project that explores the synesthetic fusion of electronic music with live midi-controlled visuals and emerging 3D and holographic technologies; artist, composer and performer Mira Calix who integrates musical composition with visual media and technological innovation to create installation and performance works; and Flat-e, a London-based design studio creating installations, artworks and experiences. This panel will be chaired by onedotzero’s Shane Walter.

18:00-18:30 - Leafcutter John & Scanner "Start With Nothing"

Modular synthesisers are all about SOUND, no email, online browsing, or social networking. Patching isthe process of connecting different modules together using cables to create, shape and modulate the sound produced. Scanner and Leafcutter John will begin with nothing patched, and build an electronic sound world between them. Everything you will hear will be created live at that very moment, never to be repeated again in a wiggling, wobbling and wild sonic adventure. They have no expectations or plans: only to listen, play and enjoy. 

18:00-22:00 3beards Silicon Drinkabout with Heineken

Silicon Drinkabout is a weekly meet-up for startups and techies to meet like-minded people, have some fun and relax at the end of the working week. Originally founded by Mind Candy, grown in London by 3beards and expanded around the world with the enthusiasm, energy and commitment of volunteers, Silicon Drinkabout aims to connect and support startup communities both on a local and global level.

Tickets for individual performances and sessions will be available on the door for £10 subject to availability.

Now in its third year, Convergence is an established multi­venue event series celebrating
musical pioneers, visual artists and technologists. Taking place in some of London’s most iconic venues, including B​arbicanRoundhouseVillage UndergroundTroxyKOKO, ​Scala and S​t John on Bethnal Green​, ​Convergence brings the capital together through compelling dialogue and a thrilling programme of events.

Convergence Sessions ​showcases innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship in arts and technology. The Sessions will create an immersive playground of ideas, comprising a programme of talks, experiential education workshops, panel discussions, performances and installations. Sessions take place from 17­-19 March at A​ce Hotel, Shoreditch.
