An Evening with Obscura Digital

From mapping video onto nearly any surface to building large-scale, multi-touch displays, Obscura Digital delivers groundbreaking immersive and interactive experiences. Part technology lab and part creative agency, we are continually generating new forms of experiential marketing for Fortune 500 clients around the world. Obscura was named top 10 most creative agencies in 2009 by FastCompany Magazine and is a member of the Society of Digital Agencies, the world's premier group of creative agencies focused on new media.

Barry Threw, Interactive Media Developer at Obscura, is a cultural developer working to incubate emerging aesthetics in spatial media. For over a decade he has engaged the immersive and interactive arts, working internationally with institutions and artists interested in the intersection of sound, video, network, and audience experience. After receiving his MFA in Electronic Music and Recording Media from Mills College in Oakland, CA, he became sought after as a catalyst of forward-looking artistic projects using advanced technologies.

Mary Franck is a new media artist whose works articulate the beautiful and unsettling potential of digital technology. Her recent work has been primarily in video, crafting luminous, dream-like environments to chart digital extensions of human imagination. She was the lead developer of the UAE National Day Mosque Illuminations, seen by thousands of visitors on the Sheik Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi for the 2011 UAE National Day. She enjoys synthesizing different media and collaborates often with dancers, programmers, musicians, and other visual artists. Franck holds a Studio Art B.A. in Conceptual and Information Art from SFSU. Presently she is a resident artist at Million Fishes Arts Collective and an Interactive Art Engineer at Obscura Digital.

Their presentation will consist of an overview of some of the history of Obscura Digital, some examples of projects, and an introduction into some of the technology used to create their large scale building projections.

Doors open at 6:30. Please only RSVP if you are definitely coming as space is limited. If you do RSVP and cannot make it, please let us know so others may attend. convergesf at gmail dot com.
