Description

Class Description: Expect to learn about practical critter control methods that are proven to work in varying degrees in the orchards and vineyards of Northern Michigan. Most vineyards in the area are surrounded by woods and farmland and can be the target for deer, raccoons, migratory birds, turkeys, rodents, and more. There is no one best way to control critter damage in vineyards so this class will review a wide range of methods and their effectiveness and cost, both the hard cost of purchase and the labor involved in applying each method.

Tom Jaenicke is the owner and operator of Charlevoix Moon Vineyard, producing cold climate wine grapes near Charlevoix, MI in The Tip of the Mitt AVA. As with many people today, Tom was born and raised on a farm but left the farm life for other adventures in adulthood. Tom circled back to farming 15 years ago when he bought the property that became the site of Charlevoix Moon Vineyard and started growing wine grapes and eventually producing estate grown wine under the Charlevoix Moon Artisan Wine label.

Certificates of Completion will be awarded for attendance to at least seven of nine classes in the "Vine Track". The SAGGA members who are also employers will know this certificate and its merit. To receive a certificate you can not miss more than two (2) classes in a series or four classes for the whole series.
