Retreat with Khenmo Drolma

As artists, we constantly explore perception and mental states to create. We rarely examine these states as a conscious choice. Many cultures celebrate the contemplative artist who creates from a mind of deep inner peace. This is the wellspring of all sacred and healing arts.

Join Khenmo Drolma (from the Vajra Dakini Nunnery) for an exploration of working within meditative states and creation of art. You will be given basic meditation and mindfulness instructions and simple exercises to learn how to locate and work from oceanic stillness. Participants will also create art with pen and brushes on newsprint as a component of the retreat. (Supplies provided.) This course is for all levels of experience, especially those tired of the myth of the tortured artist!

"Through Khenmo’s Contemplative Art workshop, I have become aware of how to use meditation within my own art practice. It has helped me bring attention to permanence and impermanence. I can incorporate breathing and mindfulness to support focusing on a project or task to keep my energy and productivity flowing."
-Nancy Grace Horton, workshop attendee

About Khenmo Konchog Nyima Drolma:
Abbess of Vajra Dakini Nunnery, Khenmo Konchog Nyima Drolma has studied with the foremost spiritual teachers of our time including H.H. Dalai Lama, H.H. Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche (the head of the Drikung Kagyu Lineage) and Ani Pema Chodron. After her novice ordiantaion by Drikung Kyabgon in 1997, she received training at Gampo Abbey guided by Ven. Pema Chödrön, and attending their shedra (philosophy College). In 2002 she took full ordination as a Buddhist nun in Taiwan. In 2004 she was installed as a Khenmo (Abbot) in the Drikung lineage, becoming the first woman and first westerner in her lineage to officially hold this responsibility.  Formerly, she was a sculptor and Professor at the Maine College of Art in the United States. Using these skills, in 2002-3 she served as the Art Director during the construction of Songsten Library, creating the bronze statue of King Songsten Gonpo while supervising the paintings and team of artists. Since then she has worked continuously to establish Vajra Dakini Nunnery and teach the Dharma internationally.
