Description

CONTAINER GARDENING

Join Tarrant Area Food Bank for an engaging discussion about the different types of containers that can be used to grow edible plants. With limited space and resources, container gardening can be a fun and creative way to bring fruits, vegetables and herbs to your garden space!

This TAFB Learning Garden workshop will cover the following topics:

  • Recommended sizes and types of containers for growing edible plants in North Texas
  • Recommended vegetables, herbs and fruits for container gardening
  • Care and maintenance for container gardens
  • Hands-on assembly of a container garden

You bring the container (pot, bucket, can, bowl, etc.) and we'll bring the stuff to fill it!

Recommended sizes:

  • 6 to 8-inch diameter for 1-2 herb plants
  • 10 to 12-inch diameter (and depth) for herb arrangements
  • 12 inches and up diameter for bush tomatoes and peppers

Resources are limited. Please be mindful when choosing your container.

This workshop is intended for beginner level gardeners ages 18 and over. Workshops are typically held outdoors. We suggest wearing layers of weather-appropriate clothing that you do not mind getting dirty and closed-toed shoes. Should the weather become unfavorable, we will move the workshop to an indoor classroom.
