Consulting as Career Option: "the Good, the Bad & the Ugly"
Event Information
Description
Most of us have thought about it, becoming a consultant, as a new career direction, right? But we hesitate for a variety of reasons, such as ‘no steady paycheck’, ‘finding customers’, 'too much work', and ‘getting paid’. Sounds like a mountain to high to climb, doesn’t it?
But if you reflect a bit, every organization has to find customers and get paid, so the fact that we may not be daily conscious of the reality doesn’t mean it’s not reality for every for profit as well as not for profit organization. Besides, in a ‘think-of-yourself-as-self-employed’ and ‘flat, hot, and crowded’ world, we all need to be part of the process that brings customers in who value our products and services. Why even thinking of yourself as an 'internal consultant' at your present job may also be a good strategy for internal customer [colleague] service. And there's even rumor afoot that many professionals and subject matter experts have 'side businesses' as a career security strategy.
Maybe being a consultant isn’t that hard after all, or is it?
Join us Tuesday evening, July 18th, 2017 for the NetWork 2 NewWork event, “The Consulting Career Option: the Good, the Bad & the Ugly." Previously an employee and now an independent consultant, Scott Stapel will walk us through his journey to a decision to ‘hang up his shingle’, so to speak, and start a consulting business here in West Michigan.
