The De Anza College Choir, under the direction of Dr. Cyril Deaconoff, invites the community to its Annual Christmas Concerts, with two performances held the weekend of December 6 ($10 general, $5 students) and December 7 (free, with a suggested donation of the same amount).
This year’s program blends festive holiday music with profound reflection, featuring movements from Considering Matthew Shepard by Craig Hella Johnson. The acclaimed oratorio honors the memory of Matthew Shepard, a young gay man whose 1998 murder became a turning point in national awareness of hate crimes. Through its blend of classical, folk, and gospel elements, the work delivers a message of compassion, hope, and unity that resonates deeply during the holiday season. The Silicon Valley Gay Men’s Chorus will join De Anza students in this performance of Considering Matthew Shepard.
Also featured on the program is the chamber orchestra, led by Dr. Marcel Macedo, performing Terry Riley’s minimalist masterpiece In C.
Join the De Anza College ensembles for an evening of inspiring choral music, community, and celebration of the enduring spirit of peace and love.
** No advance registration required. Admission is sold at the door only. Attendees do not need to print a ticket — just show up.
