Speaker:

 Jon Mark Hirshon, MD, MPH, PhD

Senior Vice Chair, UMB, IRB; Professor, Departments of Emergency Medicine and of Epidemiology and Public Health

 

Dr. Hirshon will present a brief historical perspective on research ethics with a focus on informed consent. He will place this discuss within the current U.S. regulatory environment about research and research ethics, including a review of the differences between waiver of informed consent for minimal risk research versus exception from informed consent for emergency research. Finally, he will briefly introduce the University of Maryland, Baltimore’s Human Research Protection Program.
