Event description
A clothes on, full day workshop exploring consent, choice and the 3-Minute Game

About this Event

We are back with the Autumn term and starting a new series of introductory workshops exploring consent and creating community.

What is consent?

Consent is an ongoing practice of choice and agreements.

Why the 3-Minute Game and what is it?

The 3-Minute Game was invented by Harry Faddis and developed by Betty Martin and you can watch Harry and Betty talking about it in the video link at the bottom of the listing.

Every time I play or witness the 3-Minute Game I learn something new about myself and others.

The 3-Minute Game is a wonderful way to learn about consent, develop self-awareness and practice choice. It can also be great fun!

Learning the 3-Minute Game and working with Betty Martin

I first met Betty during 2 workshops in the Summer of 2016 and I have been teaching my friends and partners the 3-Minute Game ever since.

Her teachings around consent have become the cornerstone of both my private practice and my way of living.

After attending Like a Pro professional training with Betty earlier this year, she has now become my mentor and coach.

Do I have to touch people to participate in this workshop?

In a word – no!

Many people think consent and the 3-Minute Game is all about touch. In fact, it is all about choice. Every time you make a choice you are participating.

Knowing what you want, as well as what you don’t want is the key.

In this clothes-on session we will:

• Develop awareness of what we want and who we want to explore with

• Share thoughts and feelings around consent and choice

• Practice making requests and hearing a variety of answers

• Explore why we hesitate to ask for what we want

• Learn ways of breathing to help relax, de-stress and enjoy sensations differently

• Discover how movement can reduce anxiety and tension, and feel more resilient throughout the body

• Introduce dialogue around boundaries and consent

• Watch a demo the 3-Minute Game

• Try out or witness the 3-Minute Game for ourselves

• Establish new ways to ask for what you want and refine it to meet your needs

• Gain access to regular 3-Minute Game practice sessions

• Have a 3-Minute game handout to take home

What can you expect?

• Sessions are conversational, interactive and informative

• We all keep our clothes on and there is no requirement to be touched or touch anyone else

• We create a confidential, neutral space for you to ask questions and share experiences

• We will have both cushions and chairs available to sit on during the event. The invitation is to get comfy

• An opportunity to get to know other adventurers and develop community

What to bring and what to wear?

• A water bottle

• A hot drinks container with a lid for complimentary teas

• Comfy clothes

• Notebook and pen

Sensitivity

Acknowledging that this is, for some, a daunting and new experience, and I want to encourage people to engage as freely as they can. We will be creating a neutral, relaxed and confidential space. Sue will be available to talk on a one to one basis after the event.

Timings

• 10.30am – Doors open, arrival and tea

• 10.45am - Workshop starts

• 5pm - Workshop ends

We will have regular mini breaks during the workshop as well as a 1-hour lunch break.

Teas and snacks will be provided.

Cost

• Supporter: £65

• Regular: £55

• Low-income or student: £45

We want these workshops to be available to those who want to attend. With that in mind there are 3 rates to choose from. The regular price is £55. If you are able to give more, as a supporter, that helps us offer reduced prices for those on a low income or studying.

We operate on an honesty basis and if the low-income band is right for you, please choose that.

Venue & Accessibility

Tara Yoga Centre is accessed at ground level.

Inside the main door, there are 5 small steps up into the Centre. Once in, there are no more steps to access either the room we are using or the toilets.

The kitchen is downstairs, and we can make drinks for anyone who has accessibility issues.
