Description

Please join us on November 18, 2017 for a day dedicated to conquering cancer. This day is inspired by one of our own Ardent family members that is battling lymphoma.

This woman is a strong, single mother to two girls. She works full-time and crossfits faithfully at 5:30 AM.

She keeps showing up. She is a constant in the corner at 5:30 AM. She shows up tired, sick, hair or no hair, refusing to give up. She inspires us and is an Everyday Warrior. It is an absolute honor to sweat alongside her and stand witness to her example.

"For almost 17 years, running was my thing. Crossfit intimidated the crap out of me, but I knew I wanted to do it. I was feeling as if I failed every time I went to class. I wanted to be better. Every morning it was a mind game, convincing myself to get up and walk through the doors again, to not give up on myself. I felt I couldn't keep up and began wheezing during the WODs. I noticed that every time I raised my arms over my head, I practically choked myself out.

Then one morning, I noticed the lump on my neck. Weeks later, I learned it was lymphoma. I texted Kasey the week I was diagnosed with cancer, and asked her to change my membership. I told her about my cancer. I was scared of what was going to happen, knew I would be sick, and that the medical expenses would be high. Kasey told me to not stop crossfit, to continue to come as much as I could, and not go through the fight alone- they would all be there for me. Ardent has taught me that's it's okay to let others help, to be vulnerable, to be sick. Ardent gave me a safe place to be myself and to focus on my health during this bump in the road.

Crossfit has taught me that I can't squat (lol), that going back to basics to ensure a proper foundation is the best thing to do, over and over at times. It taught me to cheer loudly in support of everyone from the first to the last one finished, Rx or Scaled.

I went through eight cycles of chemotherapy to treat Follicular Lymphoma. Then I found out that my chest cavity was engulfed with aggressive Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma as well and I would need six more months of a much harsher chemo. My chest hurt so bad and I couldn't breathe because the cancer volume shifted my esophagus area into an angle. I now endure two years of maintenance chemo as well as full body scans every six months for life. The reality is that my body is likely to continue to grow cancer - as I found out a month ago with a breast biopsy."

This event is guided by her vision; "I want to help others going through hard times to not give up and continue to exercise - even if it's just getting back to basics like I did. Having Ardent, full of people that cared, hair or no hair, made such an impact. As much as I wanted to give up and hide, everyone there kept encouraging me to keep going."

There are three major lifestyle factors that help conquer and prevent cancer: fitness, nutrition, and mindset.

Your time with us will focus on all three of these factors. Each group will rotate through 20 minutes of the following:

  • Nutrition Workshop: learn about healthy eating, macros, and food prep strategies to keep you on the right track no matter your schedule
  • Yoga: spend some time learning to love yourself, focus on the good, and relax your mind and body
  • WOD: participate in a crossfit-style workout that is easily adjusted for all ages and fitness levels

Other highlights include raffles and a free opportunity to dedicate your workout to or in memory of someone you love.

There will be three time slots available to complete the workshop and WOD.

  • 9-10:30AM
  • 10:30AM-12:00PM
  • 12:00-1:30PM

Each time slot will have 45 spots available. Tickets are $20 per person plus eventbrite fees ($22.76 total). Proceeds will go to Everyday Warrior and our Ardent member battling cancer. There is also an opportunity for additional donation through eventbrite when purchasing tickets.

Everyday Warrior Mission: Everyday Warrior is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded with the primary mission to inspire, empower, and financially support individuals in the CrossFit community who have been diagnosed with cancer and are currently undergoing treatment.
