Event description

Description

How do we touch each other in an untouchable world?
How do we cultivate pleasure and communion when we're on our own?
How does our communal, connective tissue evolve when our bodies are breaking down?

Join us for our first ever online salon featuring visionary artists SublimeLuv, payal kumar, and Leah Wilks. (Bios below.) We'll delve into how we're connecting more deeply and deliciously with ourselves, with others, and with technology as our world turns inside out.

Time: Connect, reacquaint, laugh, adjust to new realities, and sort out any online wonkiness starting at 6. Talks begin right at 7.

Dress, Decor and Drinks: Dress code and decor invitation for the evening is also "CONNECTION." We welcome you to deck yourself and your personal salon space in clothing, ornaments, and symbols that feel connective - to your ancestors, to your true self, or to the groundwires of sanity. BYOB for the intermissions and post-salon. We'll have breakout rooms to socialize, tipple, and virtually toast.

Getting There: Zoom room info will be provided about a week before the event. Dowloading zoom is the easiest, but we'll also have a call-in number for ya. If you haven't used Zoom before, you might wanna test drive it before the party.

Offerings: You're welcome to make a donation of $20-$60 when you RSVP. Please be as generous as your are able: The money is equally distributed amongst the performer/presenters. Donations are suggested but not required: Please do feel free to arrive with a full heart and empty pockets. (Just RSVP with the pay-what-you-can option.)

Additional support: Coordinating salons and sharing my art takes thousands of hours a year - and I love every second of it! If you would like to support the work I do in my labor of love, you can support me via Venmo to @julieannotis, via Paypal to julieazalea@gmail.com, or via my Patreon page.

Bios.... Prepare yourself. They are amazing:

payal kumar (they/them) is a diasporic dreamer working towards inclusive solidarity and liberation based on Massa-adchu-es-et land. As a multimedia artist, doula, medical advocate, and futurism fanatic, they invoke the power of interdisciplinary movement-building to construct tender new possibilities of being beyond borders and capital. Their organizing work centers art-making as an accessible transgenerational trauma-healing modality and as a tool for our communities to disrupt the State's monopoly on Imagination. Through spoken word, they alchemize science and language into spaces to process cultural inheritance and corporeality. payal's visual work draws on Desi folk art and traditional Americana tattoos to construct new in-between spaces that explore mental illness, queerness, and intimacy. Through these strategies, they cultivate playful intergenerational dialogues so we can all fully unearth and activate our collective power.

Leah Wilks (she/her) is a queer, southern, dancer, musician and writer currently residing in Brooklyn. Her work revolves around memory, memorialization, death and dying practices, and the creation of monumental spaces through movement. She also spends a lot of time working with elderly folx and growing green things/digging in the dirt, as well as maintaining a long-distance duetted practice with collaborator Mauriah Kraker [for more of that work: www.bestlastdances.com]. www.leahwilks.com

Amber Aliyah Williams, aka SublimeLuv (she/her), is a black queer womanist who always speaks her truth and believes "the personal is political." She is a Boston born and bred spoken word artist. She has performed at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts, the city of Quincy's first Pride celebration, and has been an active performer in The Femme Show since 2014. Through her art and future endeavors, she aims to empower women and non-binary people of the global majority to impact visibility and positive worldwide change.
