Lutz Leichsenring joins us at Factory Berlin with moderator Lewamm Ghebremariam to discuss the success of United We Stream on reconnecting the music scene and its audience during isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since 2009, Lutz has been the spokesman and executive board member of the Berlin Clubcommission and fought tirelessly for the rights of Berlin’s vast underground club scene by organizing protests, conferences, workshops and by speaking at roundtables and parliamentary committees. He co-initiated United We Stream to help nightlife spaces around the world subsidize operational costs during their closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic and now resulting with 467 locations in 111 cities, over 2,282 artist performances, €1.7million globally in donations and a viewership of over 35 million.

About the Moderator
Lewamm “Lu” Ghebremariam is a Senior Campaign Strategist for the petition platform Change.org Germany. Since 2018, she has been supporting and advising activists with her marketing and strategy expertise making national and international headlines. Lewamm has accompanied and consulted numerous campaigns and initiatives - with a particular focus on elevating “marginalized” voices or helping “niche” issues become mainstream, including #RKellyStummschalten (#MuteRkelly Germany), #NWortStoppen (#StoptheNword), or the recently passed law against Upskirting.
Lewamm is an honorary board member of the Berlin Clubcommission. Focusing on awareness, a low-discriminatory, diverse and sustainable club culture. Since 2017, Lewamm has been hosting the queer-feminist event series BRENN. For her continuous work on elevating marginalized voices in music and club culture, Lewamm was included in the “Alternative Power 100 Music List 2020” by shesaid.so and Native Instruments.
About the Speaker
Lutz Leichsenring is a consultant, keynote speaker and one of the world’s leading authorities on protecting creative communities. Lutz started his professional career immediately after high school, when he built one of the largest platforms for music event listings in Germany.
He went on to run a music club and restaurant until 2010, and today is one of the chief shareholders of a Berlin-based talent recruiting event company young targets GmbH and Amsterdam based night time advocacy consultancy VibeLab.
Since 2009, Lutz has been the spokesman and executive board member for the Berlin Clubcommission and fought tirelessly for the rights of Berlin’s vast underground club scene by organizing protests, conferences, workshops and by speaking at round tables and parliamentary committees. His role has led Lutz into the city’s Berlin Musicboard and Chamber of Commerce, where he frequently votes on development issues that protect creative space affected by gentrification and overregulation. In 2017, alongside civic luminary former Night Mayor of Amsterdam Mirik Milan, Lutz launched the Creative Footprint, a project to measure, compare, and advocate for creative spaces in urban areas worldwide, like Berlin, New York and Tokyo.
During the Corona crisis, Lutz initiated United We Stream, a global music streaming platform to create awareness about club culture affected by Covid-19 and nighttime.org to support nighttime governance to set up a Global Nighttime Recovery Plan.
