Event description

Description

Many people say the camera is a barrier between ourselves and nature. But with the right technique, cameras help us discover features and feelings hidden in our wild places. Join us for an evening exploration of Ethan Allen Park, using our cameras to find deeper connections with local nature. Sean Beckett will fuse compositional technique, camera skills and ecological inquiry to teach workshop participants how to make photography part of their naturalist toolkit. This workshop is free and open to all.

No photography experience is required, but participants must bring their own camera (even iPhones or other smart phones are fine!).

Workshop Leader Bio: Sean Beckett is a naturalist and wildlife photographer who connects people to nature by-way-of their camera lenses. Sean is an alum of UVM’s Field Naturalist graduate program, a Burlington native, and a world-class wildlife photography guide. His most recent work involves building relationships between people and place here in Vermont’s Queen City.

About the workshop series

Community Naturalist Series: Creative Exploration of Burlington’s Natural Landscapes

This three-part series of creative workshops is inspired by and focused on Burlington’s natural landscapes. All workshops are open to the general public but require pre-registration. Sign up for just one, or all three! Workshops will teach different ways to celebrate place through art (drawing, photography, and writing). Workshop participants will be encouraged to use what they learn to produce a piece of artwork or writing to exhibit at a community art show at the South End Art Hop in September.

The other two workshops in the series are:
1) Nature Poetry Writing, July 16th, 6pm, Oakledge Park
2) Drawing in Place, July 22nd, 9am, Ethan Allen Park

This workshop series is offered free of charge, but we are accepting donations to help support the continuation of the Burlington Master Naturalist Program. To make a donation, visit the online donation page of the Parks Foundation of Burlington and indicate that the contribution is for the Burlington Master Naturalist Program in the comments field.

This series is coordinated through the Burlington Master Naturalist Program, an initiative of Burlington Parks, Recreation, & Waterfront. Learn more about the Burlington Master Naturalist Program by clicking here.
