Jan was born into an entire family of musicians in the city of Tabriz, one of Iran's premier cultural centers. He composed his first song at 10 years old. He started his musical career playing traditional Iranian rhythmic instruments like the Nagara and the keyboard.

Because of mucis sensorship, Jan and his wife, Torvas, moved to Turkey to continue a musical life in Instanbul and study spiritual and Sufi music. It was there where Jan learned th play the Daf and soon became an instructor of the instrument thereafter. They arrived in the U.S. and Boise in the summer of 2016 with their young daughter. Today they aim to keep their Sufi cultural traditions alive and thriving through the arts.

Jan and Torvas play together in their musical group, Tora'dan. They have performed in locallay at Treefort, Idaho Shakespeare Festival, Radio Boise and more.
