FOR CT BROADCASTERS ASSOCIATION MEMBERS ONLY:

Our 62nd annual Convention will feature informative sessions on sales, journalism, engineering, and management.  Networking opportunities throughout the day including interaction with Connecticut students from the Broadcast Education Association.  

The $40 registration fee will include seminars, a continental breakfast, and a 12 noon luncheon. 

Agenda:

8:00-9:00 AM  Registration & Continental breakfast, Rotunda, Gray Conference Center.

 

9:00-11:45 AM  SELLING TO AUTO DEALERS.

Automotive selling specialist John Tkac will lead a fast-paced, practical session about the best sales strategies to use when calling on local auto dealers.  Insight into the evolving trends and unique intricacies of the auto industry.  Strategies, tactics, and techniques to implement immediately.  Positioning against competitors in today's digital world.  For all TV and radio account executives and sales managers.

  

9:00-11:45 AM  WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ATSC 3.0. 

Madeleine Noland of LG Electronics will presentthe state of the art of the technology and discuss what impact it will have on the broadcasting industry.

  

9:00-10:15 AM  LEGAL GUIDELINES FOR PRACTICING JOURNALISM. 

The MediaLaw Section of the Connecticut Bar Association will discuss legal          guidelines for practicing journalism, addressing such topics as sources, ethics, identification of persons in stories, etc.

  

9:00-10:15 AM  LEGISLATIVE & REGULATORY UPDATES.

CBA General Counsel Eric Kemmler moderates a discussion with David Oxenford of Wilkinson/Barker/Knauer, Washington and Patrick McCabe, Capitol               Strategies, Hartford, regarding legislative and regulatory issues in                          Connecticut and the Federal Government. 

 

10:15-10:30 AMCoffee Break.  Rotunda, Gray Conference Center

 

  

10:30-11:45 AMHOW TO CONDUCT BETTER INTERVIEWS.

ESPN’s John Sawatsky conducts a workshop for reporters, producers, and content managersabout how to conduct effective interviews. 

 

 

10:30-11:45 AM  WHAT SOCIAL MEDIA MEANS TO BROADCASTERS. University of Hartford professor Abe Hefter moderates a panel discussion about   current trends in social media and their impact on broadcasters.

  

10:30-11:45 AM   TRANSITIONING FROM COLLEGE TO CAREER.

BEA’s JC Baronemoderates a panel discussion for job seekers and hiring managers.

 

Noon-1:30 PM     Luncheon & Annual Business Meeting: Gengras Student Union

 

2:00-4:00 PM  NON-COMMERCIAL BROADCASTERS. A networking session, for non-commercial broadcasters hosted by WWHU's John Ramsey.

Who may attend?

All members of the Connecticut Broadcasters Association and their employees.

Where can I park?

Attendees should use the Main Entrance to the University of Hartford located at 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford.  Use Lot D and signs will direct you to the Gray Conference Center.  

Handicap parking and drop-off is available adjacent to both the Fuller Music Center and Abrahms Hall.

 

Is there a specific room for the event?

Registration, continental breakfast, coffee, and all seminars will be staged in the Gray Conference Center. 

Lunch will be provided in the Gengras Student Union, adjacent to the Gray Conference Center.

Established in 1955, the Connecticut Broadcasters Association is its 62nd year as a respected industry leader in legal, governmental, education and community issues on both the State and National levels. Members include broadcast TV stations, radio stations, vendors and companies with a business interest in broadcasting, educational facilities, and individuals with involvement in the broadcasting industry. Member radio and TV stations also participate in Connecticut Broadcasters Association public service campaigns supporting the work of the Connecticut Department of Public Safety’s Office of Statewide Emergency Telecommunications – Emergency Alert System (EAS) and AMBER Alert programs, among other efforts.
