Event description

Description

Individuals in crisis need access to the appropriate services and treatment—wherever, whenever. A comprehensive and coordinated crisis care network is a state and community’s first line of defense to save lives, use public safety resources effectively, and help to set individuals in crisis on a path to recovery. While some communities are crisis-ready, there are few communities where all key elements of crisis care are in place, and many where even the “parts” of crisis care that exist are inadequate. In many communities, for example, the current crisis services model depends primarily upon after-hours work by on-call therapists or space set aside in a crowded emergency department (ED). National- and state-level commitment to implementing comprehensive crisis services is essential in the national effort to prevent suicide. There are promising models of crisis care from around the country that can inform policymaker efforts to save lives lost to behavioral health crises.

Join the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention (Action Alliance), in coordination with Rep. Grace Napolitano (D-CA) and Rep. John Katko (R-NY), for a briefing about transforming behavioral health crisis care. The upcoming luncheon is an opportunity to better understand the need for effective crisis care as it relates to suicide prevention, and to develop policies and programs aimed at improving behavioral health crisis care.

Additionally, the Action Alliance will share their report, Crisis Now: Transforming Services is Within Our Reach, which serves as a road map for identifying what can be done in your communities/states to transform crisis care.

Speakers include:

- Mr. David Covington, CEO and President, RI International, Inc.

- Dr. John Draper, Project Director, National Suicide Prevention Lifeline; Chief Clinical Officer, MHA-NYC

- Rep. John Katko (R-NY)

- Mr. Misha Kessler, Advocate & Entrepreneur; Founder, Rmdy.io

- Det. Nick Margiotta (Retired), President, Crisis System Solutions

- Rep. Grace Napolitano (D-CA)

- Dr. Jerry Reed, Senior Vice President, EDC

Boxed lunch will be provided.
