Congress vs. Andrew Johnson – Reconstruction, Impeachment and the Second Founding presented by Judge B. Lynn Winmill
About this event
This is one of a series of CLE presentations, in which we will study the intersection of law and American society. Our theme is “Executive Power,” exploring the scope of the President’s authority in light of history, politics, and the Constitution. Our presenters have special expertise in their field (including lawyers, judges, and historians). These 1.5 credit hour CLEs are offered in connection with a UI College of Law course. Our course is subtitled: Executive Power – The Historical, Political, and Constitutional Boundaries. We will study the scope of the President’s power. What did the Founders intend? What does the Constitution say? What does history teach? What does the future hold? The course will focus on insights from a broad social and historical perspective, but each includes the legal aspects of the issue.
