Event description

Description

It’s just another day at the office, things are humming along, people coming and going, but then things start to go sideways. Maybe it’s a client or customer who is upset, or maybe a co-worker who is upset, or maybe it’s a domestic situation spilling over into the workplace. Are you and your staff prepared to deal with a rude, loud, obnoxious, confrontational person? Do you and your staff have the knowledge, skills and confidence to deal with a difficult person in a difficult situation, and not say or do something that will turn a volatile situation into a critical violent incident?

Many businesses, corporations and organizations have a plan for all sort of emergencies, such as medical, storms, fire, and even active shooter. But hardly any effort is made to prepare for when things start to go bad with the one thing you and your staff deal with day in and day out – People.

A vast majority of people are not aware that they are actually saying or doing things in a stressful situation that may actually be making the situation worse. For example, there are people who feel compelled to want to lay a gentle hand on an agitated person in an effort to calm that person down, to comfort them, to sooth them. But if that agitated person is not ready to receive that touch, it can actually blow the situation up in a bad way. I’ve seen it.

I am not just another guy with a slide show and some videos to show. I am a very strong advocate and proponent of realistic scenario role playing. You can read all about how to hit a baseball, or watch all the how-to videos, but until you step up to the plate to develop your swing, develop your sense of timing, develop your stance, and so on, how to hit a baseball will remain just a theory to you.

Dynamic, realistic scenario training will give you several things- 1) Stress inoculation 2) Muscle memory 3) Confidence 4) Real time feedback from instructors as to what you did right and what you can do different. You do not get that from reading a manual or watching a video.

This full day, 8 hour, conflict de-escalation training seminar will consist of an hour and a half lecture presentation with slides and videos, and emphasize three basic concepts: Body language, Tone of voice and Active reflective listening.

After a break the class is broken up into 4 small groups, and then in teams of 2 or 3 everyone will go through 4 very realistic, dynamic scenarios. The instructor/role players are all former or current police officers. The scenarios run for about 3 minutes, and then go right into a critique phase for about 4-5 minutes where what was done right is validated and talked about, and what can be tweaked and done differently is discussed and explained. The scenarios are not done in front of “everyone”, it will just be you, your partner, and the instructor/role player.

After a lunch break we’ll gather together again and everyone will go through more scenarios.

My team and I look forward to meeting you and training with you, I promise you’ll have a blast!
