Description

Note that this is not a free event.  Tickets are £10 (£6 concessions) to be paid on arrival.

This conference, organised in partnership with National Museums Scotland and the Newcomen Society, will explore lesser-known innovators in engineering and industry and to also introduce tools, work spaces and concepts as ‘unsung heroes’ in their own right. The varied programme will cover historic and contemporary themes including aviation, engineering drawings, prosthetics, machine tools and workshop practice.

Presenters:

  • Xerxes Mazda (Director of Collections, NMS)

  • Nina Baker (Women’s Engineering Society)

  • Jamie Taylor (Senior Project Manager, Artemis IP)

  • Jim Mitchell (Industrial heritage consultant)

  • Miles Oglethorpe (Historic Environment Scotland)

  • Ian Brown (Assistant Curator Aviation, NMS)

  • Sophie Goggins (Assistant Curator Biomedicine, NMS)

  • Klaus Staubermann (Principle Curator Technology, NMS)

  • Miriam McDonald (Chair, STICK)

The conference is inspired by the opening of a suite of 10 new galleries of science and technology, fashion, art and design at the National Museum of Scotland on 8 July. Participants will have the opportunity to visit the new galleries during the lunch break.

Lunch will be provided.

Note that this is not a free event.  Tickets are £10 (£6 concessions) to be paid on arrival.

Bookings close 14th October.
