Event Details

Instructor: ROGER AXEL, C.B.O.

Building Official, City of New Hope, Minnesota; 35+ years combined construction and inspection experience including single and multi-family residential, educational, industrial, business and mercantile occupancies including the Mall of America. He is a State of Minnesota Certified Building Official and holds multiple certifications by the International Code Council. Roger is a contract instructor for ICC and presents seminars across the country. He also teaches at UW-Madison College of Engineering, and presents seminars for MN Licensed Residential Contractors. He is the past Chairman, and current Executive Officer, of the Association of MN Building Officials.


Learning Objective:

This interactive seminar will cover the concrete and masonry provisions of Chapters 19 & 21 of the MN Building Code and Chapters 4 & 6 of the MN Residential Code. Topics include:

 

  • CMU & CIP materials, placement and handling.
  • ACI 318 & Ready-mix concrete.
  • Footings, foundations & retaining walls.
  • Reinforcing steel requirements & placement.
  • Masonry wall construction: bond patterns, ties & corbeling.
  • Glass unit masonry.
  • Masonry fireplaces.

 

Topics will be enhanced by the use of numerous graphics and photos that identify correct and incorrect applications of the various provisions of the MN State Building Code.
