Description

This event is not for sale to the general public. It is open only to registrants of The Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival 50.

Seeking Addie is the award-winning Region 5 One Act from Festival 49.

"The year 1900 was like a spoilt child, proud of its advanced ideas." -Lillian Hellman: Unpublished Research Notebook for The Little Foxes.
Tensions rise between Addie Phillips and her husband, Martin, as she shoulders the responsibility to care for Alexandra Giddens, a naïve and idealistic young white woman. Martin, a leader of the historical “Union of Ex-Slaves”, blames Alexandra's family for keeping his family and friends in poverty. Addie's voice is woven into the narrative as she confronts uncomfortable questions about racism, presentism, and forced silence. Her wrestle with identity and historical accounting ultimately gives rise to the question, who has the right to tell a person's story?
