About this event
Doors at 6, music starts at 7. Masks highly recommended.
Robin Holcomb will perform songs from her recently released album, One Way or Another, which highlights songs form her entire career plus new compositions and covers, in the intimate setting of piano and voice. Robin’s iconic albums for Nonesuch Records in the 1990s and early 2000s garnered an extraordinary critical response, and her work--with its focus of nature, love, transformation, and human folly--is more prescient now than ever. She has recently published her first collection of words, titled Lyrics: Robin Holcomb.
“Achingly painful and suddenly tender, Robin Holcomb’s songs mirror a beguiling, bewildering world.” --Wif Stegner, Rolling Stone
"This beautiful music Robin Holcomb has made. Intimate. Sacred. Scared. Brave. Naked. Magic. Hope. Music….Everyone. Please LISTEN. Listen closely. We need this." --Bill Frisell
Horvitz/Brooks/Kim brings together three disparate artists with wildly different backgrounds in a trio focusing on improvisation, new readings of traditional songs, and Wayne Horvitz’s compositions. Ayesha Brooks, who was featured in Season 6 of “The Voice,” shares with Wayne a deep love for blues, roots music, and gospel. Ha-Yang Kim, who is classically trained as a cellist, intersects with Horvitz in their love for new and avant-garde composition and improvisation, and their connections to NYC via John Zorn and others.
Also on display will be new shadow art by Pat Wickline and a painting and sculpture installation by Steph Harmon
All proceeds go to the musicians.
