Conceptualizing Substance Use

This training will offer a trauma informed view of substance use and those that struggle with use. When conceptualizing substance use as a defense response, we can gain a deeper understanding of our clients’ holistic experience and work to treat not only the substance use, but also the emotional distress that often lies beneath.

Objectives

• Increase understanding of intersection of mental health and substance use.
• Gain skills to best support and build relationships with clients who present with dual diagnosis concerns.
• Increase skills in addressing concerns related to substance use in a way that promotes empowerment and collaboration.

Presenter

Angela Langenfeld is a Licensed Professional Counselor through the state of Wisconsin with a Specialty to Treat Substance Use Disorders. Angela completed her Master of Science in Community Counseling at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Angela is an Internal Family Systems (IFS) Informed therapist who has also trained in the Comprehensive Resource Model of treatment. Angela currently provides trauma responsive clinical supervision and therapy through Professional Services Group. Angela strives to cultivate and inspire a strengths based, trauma informed, and culturally responsive lens to case conceptualization.

Professional Services Group has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7066. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. Professional Services Group is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
